I'm sitting on the
deck this fine summer day with Buzz the cat.
We are suddenly
joined by a pair of newly minted mourning doves that flutter to a perch nearby.
My docile pet becomes a panther. The jungle-beast software in his little brain
clicks on, and he crouches down and creeps closer in his most stealthy fashion.
His tail becomes a bull whip, and he chirps and chatters with the voice of his
ancestral brethren who roamed the earth eons before Purina Cat Chow. Only the
birds' departure closes the thread and he's instantly Buzz again.
I wonder if this
ancient program will ever be deleted in our little domesticated buddies.
