Charlton Heston's Interview on Dick Cavett (1970)

He was a good actor, although he was never ever comfortable in his own skin. It always seemed that he was putting a lot of effort into his acting. He was not a natural actor like Spencer Tracy or an interesting one like Humphrey Bogart.
Interestingly, in this live interview, Mr. Heston was quite relaxed and quite engaging ... and that is a rare thing. He is even smiling and laughing unreservedly and that was amazing !
I think the period of the late 50's thru the early 70's were good years for him because he made several really good movies that had variety and depth.
After that period, however, I think he got more hard-edged in his political views, he became especially more pompous and uninteresting. It all just goes to show that actors shouldn't be so full of themselves.
